    Apply Australian Student Visa

    Published On

Step 1: Explore your Study Options

    Identify Your Field of Interest
If you’re unsure about which field to pursue, we provide a detailed guide covering popular study areas and their potential career paths.

    Search for Institutions and Courses
Utilize the Study Australia Course Search tool to explore:

Various Australian education providers, including schools, English language (ELICOS) courses, vocational (VET) training, and higher education institutions (universities).
A wide range of courses, along with details on tuition fees, start dates, and duration.
    Available scholarship opportunities.
You can create a shortlist, compare options, and directly contact education providers for inquiries.

    Choose a Suitable Location
Australia offers study opportunities in diverse settings, from bustling cities and regional hubs to natural landscapes near beaches, rainforests, or the outback.

Step 2: Ensure you meet academic Requirements

Admission requirements, including English language proficiency, vary depending on the course you choose.

Visit the education provider’s website (via the Study Australia Course Search tool) to review specific entry criteria. Contact the institution directly if you need additional details.

    English Language Proficiency
If English is not your first language, most courses require proof of English proficiency.

    General Entry Requirements:
English Language Courses (ELICOS): No academic entry requirements for General English programs, but exam preparation courses (e.g., IELTS, CAE) may require a placement test.
Schools: Entry criteria differ by school and region.
Vocational Education and Training (VET): Generally, no entrance exams are required, though some courses may require prior study or work experience.
Undergraduate (Higher Education): A qualification equivalent to Australia’s Year 12 (Senior Secondary Certificate) is required. Some programs may have prerequisite subjects.
Postgraduate (Higher Education): Completion of an undergraduate degree is necessary, and some programs may consider research ability or relevant work experience.
    Foundation Programs
If you don’t meet the standard academic requirements for an Australian high school qualification, you may consider a Foundation course (also known as a bridging program), which typically lasts one year and is available at most higher education institutions.

    Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Some Australian institutions offer course credits or exemptions based on your previous education or experience. Learn more on the course credits and exemptions page.

    Step 3: Submit Your Application

    Applying Directly
Once you’ve chosen a course using the Course Search tool, you can typically apply via the institution’s website or request an application form via email.

The application process may take a few weeks, and for postgraduate programs, it could take longer. If accepted, you will receive an offer letter and an acceptance form.

The next step is to apply for a student visa through the Department of Home Affairs. Refer to the visa application guide for detailed steps.

    Using an Education Agent
An education agent can assist with study and living arrangements in Australia, as well as guide you through the application process.

They have access to updated course details from Australian institutions and can provide tailored advice.

Tips for Choosing an Education Agent:
Opt for an agent endorsed by your chosen institution. A list of approved agents is usually available on education providers’ websites.
Understand all fees before signing a contract or making payments, and always request a receipt.
Consult multiple agents and compare their advice before making a decision.

⚠️ Important: Education agents cannot guarantee permanent residency or job placements in Australia after graduation. Their role is limited to assisting with study applications.

    Changing Courses or Institutions
If you wish to switch courses or institutions, ensure that you comply with your student visa conditions and follow the correct procedures. More details are available on the Changing Course or Provider page
